Self Improvement and Motivation: Find Both Inside Yourself Today
Tuesday, November 29th, 2011
If you feel stuck in a rut and are currently searching for a path to self improvement and motivation, stick with this article to the end. It presents several ideas outlining a potentially life changing course towards self improvement and motivation without you having to spend money on books, seminars or videos. In fact, this course relies on methods you can find for free – within yourself. Let’s get started.
First off, get real and start taking responsibility for who you really are. It is only at the point when you start accepting responsibility for your life – both who you are and what you do – that you will start to realize that you have control over all aspects of your life. And when you realize that you are the captain, you can start steering your ship of life in any direction you choose.
Next, start improving you work habits and relationships, bit by bit. Before you start taking responsibility for your life, before you take the wheel, you may realize that you are stuck in a job, situation or relationship that is bringing you down. Like a ship without a captain, you are headed straight for a rocky coastline
and certain disaster. Once you accept that you are in charge, you must break free of these habits. Start by asking yourself questions. “Why I am doing this job?”, “Why am I in this relationship?” If you don’t like the answers, either prepare to jump ship or start sailing the vessel yourself.
Now begin surrounding yourself with others who are also on the path to self improvement and motivation. The fastest way to get to where you’re going is to join like-minded adventurers on your quest. Even better is to find others who have already sailed the course ahead of you and are willing to serve as a guide. You must be proactive. If there is someone you know who has already become the kind of person you want to be, approach them and let them know. There’s much you can learn from these people and most of them are willing to share.

Harnessing the Power of the Unknown: Move from Repeating the Past to Re-inventing the Future
Tuesday, November 29th, 2011
The Unknown – it is scary territory for many, something to be avoided for others and shameful for those who feel they are supposed to know everything. What is your relationship with the Unknown? Take a moment to ponder it because your attitude towards and experience of this is what governs your ability to create, to innovate and truly bring more of yourself out into the world – in short to be successful. If you are going to create something new in your life – in your career, your relationships and your creative endeavors you will be walking into unknown territory. Learning how to navigate this territory effectively and with power is what makes the difference between having a full, rich experience of life and work you enjoy, relishing the adventure of every day or living in frustration wondering why the same thing keeps occurring repeatedly.
Many of us have been taught to be afraid of what we don’t know. It’s threatening, “bad” things happen in the unknown, if you don’t know the answer it means you are stupid. You have been taught over and over again that remaining with what you know will ensure your security and your success. But you can see repeatedly that this attitude gives birth to bigotry, prevents you from taking informed risks that could improve your life and often creates a life of boredom and fatigue.
In truth each moment is a new one. It is your habit of carrying the past forward that keeps you repeating the same old patterns both in business and in your personal lives. This is not to say that experience doesn’t develop discrimination. It does and discrimination is a valuable tool for us. The question is when is it blocking you? I can’t tell you how many times in working with clients they say some variation of the following –
- Why even try a new approach, it will fail as it has in the past,
- Why risk a new relationship, it won’t work out anyway,
- Why reach for the next level of success and challenge myself I am fine here.
But what I know is that if you are not moving into new territory, you are not being as truly alive as is possible and your businesses are not as creative and successful as they could be. You are holding yourself back from what is possible in your life and in your profession. And because of that you suffer personally and professionally. Unknown territory is the birthplace of all possibility, all real support and is a very exciting space in which to operate.
There are many things that keep us from exploring new territory: fear, lack of self-esteem or confidence, lack of support, and misuse of imagination are a few. This misuse of imagination is one of the trickiest to detect. Many people feel that imagination is the province of children and artists. That of course is true but each of you uses your imagination constantly; however, many of you don’t recognize you are doing this. Every time you think you know what is going to happen you are using your imagination. Are you using it against yourself or for yourself and your goals? If you are imagining the repetition of the past you are using it negatively and not allowing a brand new thought, solution or step to emerge. When you walk into a business meeting and your anxiety rises you are using your imagination “knowing” you won’t close the deal – you are seeing the worst possible outcome. When you won’t take a reasonable, calculated risk you are likely using negative imagination to keep you in the sphere of the known. You imagine you won’t be safe in unk! nown territory. But the Unknown is the territory of possibility, creativity, your own real pathway and therefore success. Who really knows what will happen next?
One of the things that prevent you from experimenting with unknown territory is that you believe you won’t be safe. Once
again you use your imagination against yourself and your goals rather than accessing the resources that will support you in entering unknown territory. So how can you move into new territory safely?
- Navigation: One of the premises I hold in working with clients is that we each have our own innate intelligence, our own North Star by which to navigate. Have you ever had the experience of just “knowing” that something was right for you? That is the action of your own innate intelligence, your own North Star. The more you can develop your contact with that innate knowing, even feeling it in your body the more you have a sextant with which to navigate the unknown. This connection is learnable. Using it you are able to sense and know the right move without accessing negative imagination. You become more agile in making accurate decisions.
- Innate Talent: identifying, following and developing your own innate talent will always move you into new territory and if you are true to it will always lead you into safe territory. Some people awaken their innate talent in their current jobs and discover new levels of success; others wrap entirely new businesses around that talent. In either case, new success and fulfillment result.
- Intention: In order to navigate safely you need to have a sense of where you are going, once more not based solely on the past but flexibly moving towards possibility. Developing a clear intention here that is in alignment with your talents and your values creates natural stepping-stones in this unknown landscape. They feel right! Setting a clear intention allows you to envision where you are going and when new opportunities arise you can recognize them as a possible steeping stones. Your positive, informed imagination aids you in finding the right next step.
- Guidance and Support: Because we often have to move against our patterning and learning in this movement towards the new, it is useful to have a mentor or guide to help you discern when you are straying off your navigated course and moving back towards the past. The right guidance at the right moment can offer new tools, prevent you from being myopic and open your vision to a whole new horizon. It can also accelerate your progress.
I suggest that you spend at least a few moments in the busyness of your life to question what your relationship with the Unknown is really about. Do you relish it? Do you fear it? Do you ignore the richness that could be there for you? Do you repeatedly use negative imagination to hold you back to mistakenly “keep you safe”? Then take a look at some of the tools I have suggested that can assure a safe passage for you and honestly ask yourself how you are developing each of them. Who can aid you in scouting new territory for your personal and professional life? Develop those relationships- they are the invaluable ones!
You can excel in life and in business as you keep dynamically moving forward into new territory.

Gremlins! Time to Take Control
Sunday, November 27th, 2011
It is a wonder we can function at all. Each of us has multiple personality types all crying for attention. Most of us think one way, work another, and feel in a personality style different from either working or thinking styles! And you question why you are sometimes confused?
On top of all that, there is our ego to deal with. Our ego has a representative that might be considered a lobbyist. You know, those people that are always talking to you, promoting their agenda, trying to convince you to do it their way. I call this little guy my gremlin, and he is always trying to sit up on my shoulder and whisper in my ear.
It is very important to know about gremlins. They hate change. (Change hurts) They do not like to take chances. (Bruised egos) No new relationships, no stepping out on a limb, no way! They love comfort, and feed on the negative emotions we all have within us.
Have you ever heard your gremlin whisper to you?
“You can’t do that, you don’t have enough experience!” (no confidence)
“Wait until tomorrow to finish this, you are tired and need some rest. Besides, who is going to notice?” (procrastination)
“You can’t join them, they are better (smarter, prettier, richer) than you!” (jealousy)
We each have a gremlin who can also be called our ego. Our gremlin’s voice is sometimes difficult to differentiate from our spirit voice or intuition. One of the keys to life is to learn this difference.
Here are some clues to recognize the gremlin:
Gremlins tend to be negative. Intuition is positive.
Gremlins are mind based. Intuition is heart based.
Gremlins preach procrastination. Intuition doesn’t lie.
Gremlins hate change of
status quo. Intuition leads you down your chosen path.
Make it a practice to listen closely for your gremlin. Gremlins are impossible to eliminate but they can be exposed, driven into a corner and controlled. Give your gremlin a name and and begin to recognize that you have the power to control it if you choose to use it!
Learn to trust your intuition. This is the universe giving the assistance you require.
To some this may be a little out in left field. I assure you it is not! All I ask is that you try!The worst that can happen is someone overhear you talking to yourself!”Hey Gremlin! I see you! Get back in your corner and stay there! I have no time or patience for your shenanigans today!”At best, you will gain control over that part of you that will lead you to believe anger, hate, greed, jealousy and procrastination are good things.

Courage and Fear
Sunday, November 27th, 2011
Mark Twain once said, “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear not absence of fear.”
Feeling fear is normal but so many are afraid to admit it. Fear can lock us into a way of life and keep us from being truly challenged and happy. I have learned that the best thing to do is to share my fear with someone else. When I try to pretend I am not feeling it, I become even more anxious. So decide that courage is not the absence of fear but the ability to move through it, share it, and then do what must be done.
I also read once that, “Unknowns are merely joys we have not met.” What a wonderful way to think about things and events. You can take new experiences in baby steps if you need to. You do get to be in
charge of how you handle it. Does that surprise you? Learning this important fact has given me such freedom to explore and move ahead in my life. And please do not compare yourself to someone else. We are, each of us, unique in who we are as individuals and in how we handle life. Enjoy your uniqueness and move forward!
And in closing, Brendan Francis once said, “Many of our fears are tissue-paper thin, and a single courageous step would carry us clear through them.” So, keep these ideas in mind when you next feel fearful. What fear can you walk through today?

Trust the “System” – It Works!
Friday, November 25th, 2011
The “System” – the overall structure and organization of this great creation that we’re a part of… including our ability to personally interact with (and benefit from) the spiritual aspects of this creation (universal consciousness, God, whatever you’d like to call it).
Here’s the story behind our recent move.
It all started with a single comment as we merged onto the 101 and pointed the van westward from Phoenix toward a short vacation in California.
“What the hell are we doing here?”
I had lived in the Phoenix metropolitan area for over 30 years and was ready for a change to a slower-paced lifestyle, less traffic and congestion and yes, a lower summertime temperature. Don’t get me wrong. Phoenix is a great place to live – a great climate, good employment opportunities and plenty to do year around. It’s just that now, on that early September morning, I was starting to feel an urge to be somewhere else. Where – I had no clue.
“So where would you like to be?” I asked my life companion.
“Well, I remember driving through a small town in Missouri about 30 years ago that I thought was really nice. I can’t remember the name of the town but maybe if I look at a map it will come back to me.”
Obviously since we’re talking about moving here, she recognized the name of the town and to make a long story really short – we moved. Pretty simple, huh? We moved – to a town I’d never been to and that she had spent maybe all of seven minutes driving through. And – we bought a house – without ever having seen it in person. Sure, we did our research and were fortunate to have someone available fairly close by to check out the house – and we were fortunate to have complete strangers work closely with us to make sure the process was completed in a reasonably efficient manner.
We moved – and are now living in an absolutely beautiful part of the country, in a great small town
in a nice home surrounded by absolutely super neighbors and friends.
No big deal you say? Thousands of people move every day. You’re absolutely right. But how many thousands don’t move – or don’t do those really nice things they could do because they’re afraid to make a change? Because they’re afraid that things might not turn out as well as they’d like? Because they’re afraid to step outside of their comfortable little womb to experience a different lifestyle, a different job, a different group of friends, or a different environment?
How many people hold themselves prisoners in their present situation because they lack the confidence in themselves – and in the “system” – to carry them on to a more enjoyable destination? To new opportunities to experience new situations and to learn from them? The likely answer is “far too many”. What a pity.
I am thoroughly convinced that each one of us has the ability to interact with what I have referred to as the “system” to a degree that will provide us each with tremendous benefits. All we need to do is follow our instincts, our gut feelings, our “knowing” and let the system work for us. Sure, we need to do our part and do our research and sometimes even really bust our buns to get to wherever we feel we should be. But that’s just the normal doing – the actions that are a necessary part of making any change or achieving any goal.
Are you ready for a change? So go for it! The system is already in place to help you…

The Reason Nothing Happens – Is Because Nothing Is Happening!
Thursday, November 24th, 2011
I hear many clients declare how boring and stagnant their lives have become. As they disclose their concerns, the answer usually bubbles near the surface, but never quite makes it to the top. However, after a few minutes, I usually ask, “What are you doing to re-energize your life?” The most common answer is, “I dunno what to do!” Ah, the answer to the problem in itself!
Life becomes stagnant for varying reasons; however, the most causes include 1) forgetting how to re-motivate oneself and 2) waiting for the next “thing.” In both cases, it’s a matter of fast-idling in a comfort zone in hopes that something better will come along. However, while you wait and hope for the best, opportunities are passing by because you are not open to having them in your life.
— Re-Motivation —
Motivation is tough. It requires an objective, a plan, and a reason. If any of these items are missing, then the reason for the pursuit of a dream disappears. We sometimes become so stuck on a way of life, or a direction, that when we encounter a loss of any type, the resulting change causes us to stall. Life, as we once knew it, is over. This, because we’ve been so focused on a given path that any sudden changes knocks us off balance. But, the end of one way of life is indeed the beginning of a new life altogether!
In such cases, we have forgotten how to motivate ourselves and decide that it’s easier to idle with imitation projects in a comfort zone to fill our voids as opposed to breaking out and chasing a dream. We work hard to stay where we are by devising busy-work to occupy our minds that then become excuses for us to remain stationary. However, re-motivation is a necessary part of life management as it allows us to adapt to changes (i.e., success, loss, and trauma at the end of a cycle or period of extremes) that can affect our lives.
— Just Waiting Around —
“Waiting around” is a situation that we all encounter from time-to-time. We just “wait”, for any number of reasons, including fear and “holding out for something better.” In the interim, our minds run amok and we stall at the top of a downward spiral.
We sometimes become
so accustomed to allowing our environment to “rain down” on us that every time we try to move forward, we stop and wait for the “other shoe to drop.” This is not an uncommon feeling as many people remain so set in their situations that they fear what might occur if they move on with their lives.
In other cases, we occasionally enter into a situation that “looks good”, but we feel that something better is just around the corner. With that, we put our current plans on hold to see what happens next. However, over time, we’ve accumulated so many unfinished projects that we don’t know where to begin. Is it fear of commitment? Perhaps, fear of success? Or, perhaps once we finally make it through to the end of these plans, we don’t know what will happen next? Many times, it’s not so much that we’re waiting for something better, but we’re afraid of not having something to dream of or aim for once our current plans conclude.
— What’s next? —
In all cases, life stagnates because we allow it to do so. During change, you must find something to replace the loss imposed by trauma or success so that you can continue life’s journey, albeit, on a new path. However, the only way to re-motivate yourself and stop waiting is to have a Vision or a “dream of meaning”. Defining a Vision can make all the difference between stagnation and a fulfilling life.
Instead of waiting or worrying that there will be nothing at the “end of the rainbow”, start making plans for your next dream so that you can achieve the life you desire. Don’t just hang around in hopes that something better will come along, go out and find that something better, and take it!

Hey CyberJunkie, Clean that Booger off Your Nose!
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011
Well….., I got some good news and I got some bad news. It’s come to my attention that some of you want to be cyberjunkies. Which do you want first? I’ll give you the good news first. YOU can!! It’s very simple. The bad news is: It’s not easy and it could be messy.
Let’s take a look at both.
Simple is as simple does. Most everyone reading this is somewhat computer savvy. At least you know how to turn the thing on and maneuver around. So, I’m assuming you Haven’t just brought it home and taken it out of the box.
Most too often, cyberjunkies get caught up in the way something works, the theory behind it and trying to logically make sense out of it. DON’T DO THAT!!
This is one of the main reasons cyberprofiting is not easy. WE make it hard. We make it hard in our own minds.
There are unlimited resources on the net to tell you how to do something. But, have you ever noticed how long it takes you to initiate action after you have completely read the book you just purchased? YOU make it hard on yourself! Just because you don’t understand everything you read or completely follow what the author says, you say to yourself, I’ll wait till I understand it.
Now, I’ve stopped talking to you and gone to preaching to myself.
I want to relay to you a short but amusing story. When I first started on the internet it was late 1996. I was single, still am, hummm………I wonder if that means anything,
Anyway, I was on AOL one night looking at ladies profiles. Well, all of a sudden, this window pops up on my screen and nearly scares the pee out of me. I thought my computer had gone to messing with my head. Anyway, the window had a send button, so I figured I could type something and send it back.
Well, This lady on the other end says to me after some short introductions, “Do you cyber”? I said, “what is cyber”? Now
remember, I have only been on the internet less than a week. So, she says, “You know” Cyber. I said No, “What is cyber”? She said, “CYBER SEX” in all caps. Kinda like she was getting mad at me.
I said, almost nervously, I think my fingers were mumbling, “What is cyber sex”? She said, “You know, sex on a computer”. I said, “Well, I guess it’s ok unless you fall off”. True story.
I tell you this because today I’ve gone from a total “know nothing” to running two full time businesses in cyberspace. I am a popular recording artist and have just completed my first album and working on my second. Yea, I just had to plug that.
And, I have a full time Internet Marketing business. But, don’t we all? Ha! Music is my passion, and the internet business gives me the flexibility to pursue my passion. In fact, I’m writing an article on discovering your passion. Most people don’t even know what their passion is.
So, the hardest thing in cyberspace you’ll ever do is programming your mind to stop sabotaging your own efforts.
Action is the key to overcoming all sorts of non-understandable theory, ideas and concepts. Find ONE thing in the program, focus on that until you feel confident to move to the next one. I got news for you……..you’ll never completely understand all the theories and concepts until you do begin to take action.
Then, and only then, will things begin to fall into place. So, the next time you find yourself sitting in front of your computer screen doing nothing, at least clean the booger off your nose. It might get messy, but at least you’ll be doing something. :>)
Part 1: Stay tuned for part two.

How To Be Motivated To Create The Life Of Your Dreams
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011
When it comes to motivating yourself to be a better person, to do better at work or to create a happier family life you need to understand the importance of taking control of your self-talk. You really need to know how to motivate yourself through thick and thin.
Do you ever pay attention to the thoughts inside your mind? And more importantly do you ever notice the way in which you talk to yourself?
Here are three tips you can use right away to motivate yourself – find out how to be motivated in seconds:
1 Talk To Yourself The Way You Talk To Someone You Love
Be honest! Is it true you sometimes insult yourself, curse yourself and say horrible things about your abilities? If you spoke like this regularly to the people you care about they would leave and never talk to you again. There is no excuse for treating yourself so badly. Talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you deeply love. Be respectful, patient and understanding. Be slow to anger, quick to praise and grateful for the opportunity to listen.
Be on your best behavior when you talk to yourself and you will find that you treat other people better as well. This in turn will cause people to respond more positively to whatever you say. These very people will be more inclined to help you get what you want.
(How to be motivated will seem less of a mystery.)
2 Pump Up The Volume
Very often we go through our day with an internal dialogue buzzing away in the background. We mutter to ourselves about what we need to do without feeling particularly inspired to do anything other than what we have to do. This is not an effective strategy for self-motivation!
What you need to do instead is to turn up the volume, inject some passion into your words and talk to yourself with enthusiasm. You would not have much luck motivating someone else to take action without putting some energy into your words. You need to do the same to motivate yourself. You must know how to be motivated at a moments notice!
The next time you want to motivate yourself to do something – talk to yourself the
same way you would if someone was standing before you waiting to be inspired. Speak loudly with passion and excitement either aloud or to yourself inside your head. The more energy you put into it the easier it will be to light the fire inside you that sparks you into action.
3 Know How To Feel Good When You Are Having A Tough Day
No matter how focused, positive and hard working you are there will still be days when nothing seems to go your way. It is on days like this that you must take charge of your brain and take control of your self talk.
You need a back catalogue of memories you can replay to make yourself feel good. Music does it for me. I have so many songs I love to hear that I just pick one out and listen to it in my mind. In a moment I can listen to sounds that make me feel fantastic simply by choosing to. For best results imagine you have a volume control with bass and treble. Make the music sound rich, loud and resonant. This is the secret to knowing how to be motivated in a way that works for you.
A friend of mine has such a great memory that he will listen to an entire CD in his mind. How about that for a quick and easy way to feel good whenever you are having a tough day?
One final way to use this tip…
Replay happy memories of people telling you how much they value and appreciate you. Hear them saying what a difference you are making and soak up those wonderful feelings of appreciation.
It really is your choice as to how you run your brain. Choose to feel great and your communication with yourself and the outside world will become remarkable. Your motivation will soar and getting more done each day will just get easier and easier with eager people lining up to help you.
You’ll be very glad you discovered how to be motivated!

Life Issues Pt.2 – Against All Odds
Monday, November 21st, 2011
Against all odds. I think that should be the motto of every person that is striving to be successful. The “odds” can be almost be anything: a lack of money, a lack of experience, a lack of self esteem and the list goes on and on. But to become successful, one has to over everyone of them and anything negative that comes your way.
You may have a dream that you “know’ will come through, but as soon as you tell a love one it is immediately shot down. What do you do? Go against the odds. You are building a business but there are still no visible signs of success, what do you do? Give up or rise against the odds, you choose. You are in a long term relationship but suddenly things look shaky, what do you do? Give up all you have achieved or go against the odds? Again you choose.
Persistence. Anyone who has been successful in life has
that weapon in their “success arsenal”. When the odds are weighing against you heavily, a dose of persistence will see you through. Persistence is the stuff dreamers and achievers are made of, and it will help you overcome any obstacle on your journey to success. My friends, apply this remedy to your life’s situations and you will realise that it was really worth it – going against all odds.
To your success and mine,
Nicholas

Mid-Year Success Check: Are You Halfway There?
Saturday, November 19th, 2011
In a couple weeks, we’ll be heading into the second half of 2005. How are you doing on those New Year’s resolutions?
What were they?
Think back for a minute at how committed you were to achieving them. (And if you have achieved them, congratulations!)
If you’re like most people, however, all that commitment, all that resolve, turned into more frustration than results.
Maybe it started with one little slip. One day of not exercising. One chocolate, one cigarette. Or a pair of really fabulous shoes that seemed much more important than your studio rent.
Before you knew it, those well-intentioned resolutions were a thing of the past. What on earth went wrong?
This time, instead of looking back at your frustration, why not focus your energy on figuring out how to achieve your goals? Here are a few suggestions that just might help you get there:
1 – Find a goal that inspires you
What do you really want to accomplish? Is it your goal, or someone else’s? How will your day-to-day life change when you achieve that goal?
What effect will it have on you, or those around you, if you don’t get there?
Does your goal give you an opportunity to grow? To be creative? To develop into a better you?
When you find a goal that seems right, feel into it. Do you sincerely believe you can achieve it? When you think about your goal, does it really excite you? Give you energy? Is a smile starting to light up your face? If so, you’ve probably found a goal that won’t lead to frustration. So go for it!
2 – Take one small action every day
Most worthwhile goals aren’t achieved overnight. So it’s helpful to find ways to keep your momentum going. Suggestion? Every
single day, do at least one thing that will get you closer to your goal.
• Make a phone call
• Find an organization that can help, and ask for information
• Write in your journal
• Read about your goal
• Keep a chart of your progress
• Make a list of your successes
• Join an online support group
• Pat yourself on the back (or get someone else to pat you on the back!)
Don’t let a day go by without doing something – even a teensy weensy little something – toward your goal. You’ll find it really adds up.
3 – Get the word out
Over and over, research has shown that people who tell others about their goals are more successful at achieving them. So don’t keep it to yourself – tell the world what you’re up to!
Share your struggles, and your successes. Ask for help when you need it. Even better, help someone else achieve their goal. Find as many ways as you can to broadcast your commitment.
Are you going to stumble along the way? Maybe so. But if you’ve got the right goal – and the right tools – you’ll get there.
And with any luck at all, you’ll be there long before it’s time to make your resolutions for next year.
