ADHD – Its a Wonderful Life

Monday, October 31st, 2011

As I usually do over the Holidays, I watched one of my all-time favorite actors in one of my all time favorite movies and that’s Jimmy Stewart in “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Co-starring Donna Reed and made in the 1940s, the movie was not critically acclaimed at the time, but over the years has become a stable of the Holiday Season. If you have not seen it, you need to, and if you have, then you all know it revolves around a small town businessman George Bailey from Bedford Falls, New York, who, as he grows up, has all of these dreams of doing wonderful things with his life, and hopes of traveling to all the farthest points in the world. His plans are constantly interrupted by world events and family circumstances, which include the death of his father, the great depression, and World War II. George’s father and his Uncle Billy years earlier had started the Baileys Brothers Building and Loan to help the less fortunate people of Bedford Falls obtain the great American Dream of home ownership. Their only alternative is high rent or exorbitant interest rates to the local scrooge Mr. Potter. Uncle Billy is a classic ADHD type individual. An Irishmen, like me, who apparently has never been married, has a pet crow he carries around with him, and a pet squirrel at home. He is constantly worrying and has little self esteem.

George manages to support his family after marrying Mary, who is played by Donna Reed, and having a house full of children. He sees a lot of his friends go on to success in other areas, and gives up his hopes of travel and doing great things, as he is hopelessly attached to his fathers old Building and Loan business. George’s younger brother Harry Bailey has inadvertently benefited from George his whole life, from the time George saved him from an icy death in a winter lake sledding accident, to Harry getting to go to college when George’s father dies, forcing George to stay home. And finally, Harry going off to WWII and George having to stay at home, due to a loss of hearing in one ear from his heroic effort to save his brother in the icy lake years earlier. Harry goes on to win the Congressional Medal of Honor.

On the day of the welcome home celebration for Harry, Uncle Billy has eight thousand dollars of the Building and Loans money to deposit in the bank, and he runs in to the notorious scrooge Mr. Potter. Uncle Billy, in typical ADHD fashion, cannot pass up the opportunity to brag up his nephew Harry Bailey’s heroics and the headlines in the paper about his welcome home celebration. Absentminded Uncle Billy accidentally wraps up the deposit money in the newspaper which he braggingly drops in Mr. Potters lap. When he goes to the bank teller to make the deposit, he realizes the money is missing, and having no clue as to what happened to it, frantically tries to retrace his steps back to the Building and Loan. Arriving back at the Building and Loan, he is in a panic trying to tear his office apart trying to figure out how to tell George what has happened.

When George comes in to the office in a great mood due to the upcoming celebration, Uncle Billy tells him of the problem. George drags Uncle Billy all around town trying to retrace his steps. Uncle Billy naturally continues to go downhill fast in guilt and self blame, which culminates at his house when George losses his temper and shakes his uncle, calling him a silly fool, and shaking him, asking him if he knows that this means scandal and bankruptcy and prison. George leaves a mess, leaving Uncle Billy sobbing with only his crow and squirrel to console him. George arrives home on Christmas Eve and begins taking things out on all those people he loves the most (sound familiar to any of you? – it does to me).

The premise of the whole movie began with God and an Angel second class named Clarence speaking to each other in the heavens

about George. Clarence is trying hard to get his wings and become a full scale angel, but has to accomplish a task in order to do this. His task is to help George help himself get out of this mess. George, by this time, has swallowed his pride and even gone to Mr. Potter (who knowingly has the money Uncle Billy had left in his lap) and ask him for help. George tells Potter that HE has misplaced the money, which Potter knows is not the case. He responds by telling George he will call the Sheriff and swear out a warrant for his arrest for embezzlement and malfeasance of office. In his effort to offer collateral for a loan, George tells Potter he has 500 dollars equity in a whole life insurance policy. Potter tells him he is worth more dead than he is alive. George leaves and begins drinking and becomes intoxicated and gets in a fight at a local bar. After the fight he leaves in his car and runs into a tree in a heavy snowstorm. George arrives at the bridge across the river and thinks of Potters statement, and is contemplating suicide by jumping off the bridge when Clarence Angel second class arrives on the scene. Clarence throws himself in the river and begins screaming for help, knowing George will save him. George jumps in and saves Clarence, and they go into the railway station nearby to dry off and warm up. Clarence tells George he is an angel, which George mocks. While discussing things, George says everyone would be better off if he (George) had never been born. Clarence admonishes him for this, and George insists it’s the truth. Clarence seizes on this as his chance, and tells George that if he really means it, he can make it so that George Bailey had never been born.

Clarence and George then begin a very enlightening journey around Bedford Falls which is now known as “Potterville” as George tries to find his family and friends. None of whom know him as he has never been born. They visit the bar that he and Clarence are thrown out. They go to the cemetery and discover Harry Bailey’s tombstone from when he drowned at age 9, because George was not there to save him. George learns that all the men that Harry had saved to earn the Medal of Honor in WWII also died, because Harry was not alive to save them. He finds out Mary, his wife, is an old maid. His children do not exist. His mother is forced to operate a boarding house to support herself, as George was not there to take over the Building and Loan and support her. He finds out Uncle Billy has been in an insane asylum since George’s father died, and the Building and Loan was voted out of business by its board of directors. George suddenly comes to the realization of what an impact he has made in other people’s lives. He runs back to the bridge, desperately seeking his life and family back.

The town cop comes up and asks George if he is OK, and George realizes he is back to reality. He runs home to find out that all of his friends and family have come to his aid financially, and he will not be prosecuted. In the piles of money, he finds a book autographed by Clarence, thanking George for helping him get his wings.

The moral of the story and the message of this newsletter is that all of us are important, and have made a difference in people’s lives. Even if some of us feel like we are the Uncle Billy’s of our family, we are important and vital members of our families and friends lives. The world would be a lot less interesting and probably a lot poorer if any of us had never been born.

Wish all of you a wonderful 2005.

Your Growing Edge

Monday, October 31st, 2011

You’ve probably heard the term “leading edge” used to refer to technology or products that are in front of the curve, that are really advanced. You may have even heard the term “bleeding edge” in this context. I want to talk to you about your personal “leading edge,” your growing edge.

Your growing edge is that area of your life where there’s still a lot of room for improvement but you’re pushing ahead and stretching the margins of that area every day. For some this is productivity in business, for others it’s personal balance, for still others it’s family time and quality of interaction.

How do you find your growing edge and what do you do about it once you’ve identified it?

First, finding your growing edge. This can be easier than you might expect. It’s a simple matter of looking at your life over the last few months or year and seeing what challenges you keep bumping up against. For me, it’s eating right. I don’t eat breakfast or lunch and I eat too much junk. Over the last year I’ve struggled with this repeatedly, each time managing to eat “well” for a little longer, but then falling back into my old habits. The point is that I am growing in this area. You may have an area like this, too. You’re challenged by it, you make some changes, you retreat from these changes, and you make the changes again.

So what do you do with this “growing edge”? Exactly what you’ve been doing, only more so. If you’ve been building a new habit and then letting it go in times of stress, which is what

most people do, then you need to develop new stress habits. It’s easy to do the right thing during calm, peaceful times in your life, as if any of us really have those. It’s harder when the real stress starts. So what you need to do is develop a list of things you can do during a stressful time to keep your new habit going. For me, a real problem when I’m stressed is caffeine. I have a problem staying off of it, and when I’m stressed I guzzle it. My ways to avoid caffeine include not having it in the house, keeping plenty of decaf soda cold, and drinking more milk. I love milk, so this is not a hardship. When I get a caffeine craving I have a glass of milk.

The bottom line on this is that action leads to solutions. Make a list of actions you can take to keep your growing edge growing, even when you don’t feel like it, and keep taking those actions. Feel free to drop me a line and let me know how you’re doing.

The Day Your Life Will Change for Good!

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Many people long for a better life. In fact, I think it is innate to humans to desire a better life. Wherever we are at we look beyond and dream of a better place. That is good, and that is not so good. It is good because the dream is alive and we can see, even if it is far off, a better situation for us, our families and our businesses and communities. So why is it not good? It is not good because it is not yet a reality! A dream is no good if it is only a dream. Sure a dream can make you feel good but long-term, if you don’t pursue it and make it a reality, it will cause you frustration more than anything. But there is hope!

I’m talking about the day your life really changes. The day that your dream begins to become a reality, and not some pie in the sky wish. This is the day life turns around for you, the day things begin to get better and you begin to fulfill your purpose, mission and destiny! When is this day?

It is the day you make a decision!

The key to changing your life is to make a decision, and then to act upon it. And once acted upon, to follow-through consistently until your dream becomes a reality.

So the decision is the key? Yes it is. Every dream begins as a thought. “I would love to have my own business, to be free to run my life and earn as much money as I want to and take as much vacation time as I want.” Good dream, isn’t it? Probably a dream that most of us have. But there it is, a little electrical impulse bouncing around inside our head. Does that do us any good? Only if it becomes action! And it only becomes action if we make a decision.

Let’s carry this example out. What are the decisions to be made here? Well there are a few I can think of. One would be to quit your job. You can’t

go into business for yourself until you quit your job (or your current boss will be quite upset!). Decide to do it and schedule an appointment with him or her. Walk in and quit! Another decision is to go get your business license. Schedule the time, go get the papers, fill them out, pay the money and register with the state. Bingo, you’re in business!

You must decide what you must do to make your dream a reality. Then you must act upon those decisions. If you do not act, your dream becomes a pipe dream, a non-reality.When you have acted, you must follow through. Continue to follow your plan, day by day, carrying your dream to completion.

Here is a practical exercise to get you moving:

What is your dream? It could be in any area of life: Work, family, finances, health etc.

What is a decision you have to make to get yourself MOVING in the right direction? This should be action oriented not philosophical in nature. For example it should be “I am going to resign on March 1st,” not “I’ve decided that being in business for myself would be more fulfilling.” That is an idea, not a decision.

Next, pick a day you are going to do it. Pick a time. Be specific.

Next, do it!

Next, begin the process of continually following-through.

Next, enjoy yourself; you are pursuing your dream! It may be hard but it will also be the most fulfilling and rewarding time of your life!

“The history of free men is not written by chance, but by choice – their choice.” Dwight D. Eisenhower

Decide, Act, Follow-through. The day you do will be the day you change your life – for good!

Action vs. Self Delusion

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Knowledge fueled by emotion equals action. Action is the ingredient that ensures results. Only action can cause reaction. Further, only positive action can cause positive reaction.

Action. The whole world loves to watch those who make things happen, and it rewards them for causing waves of productive enterprise.

I stress this because today I see many people who are really sold on affirmations. And yet there is a famous saying that “Faith without action serves no useful purpose.” How true!

I have nothing against affirmations as a tool to create action. Repeated to reinforce a disciplined plan, affirmations can help create wonderful results.

But there is also a very thin line between faith and folly. You see – affirmations without action can be the beginnings of self-delusion. And for your well being there is little worse than self-delusion.

The man who dreams of wealth and yet walks daily toward certain financial disaster and the woman who wishes for happiness and yet thinks thoughts and commits acts that lead her toward certain despair are both victims of the false hope which affirmations without action can manufacture. Why? Because words soothe and, like a narcotic, they lull us into a state of complacency. Remember this: To Make Progress You Must Actually Get Started!

The key is to take a step today. Whatever the project, start Today. Start

clearing out a drawer of your newly organized desk… today. Start setting your first goal… today. Start listening to motivational cassettes… today. Start a sensible weight-reduction plan… today. Start calling on one tough customer a day… today. Start putting money in your new “investment for fortune” account… today. Write a long-overdue letter… today. Anyone Can! Even an uninspired person can start reading inspiring books.

Get some momentum going on your new commitment for the good life. See how many activities you can pile on your new commitment to the better life. Go all out! Break away from the downward pull of gravity. Start your thrusters going. Prove to yourself that the waiting is over and the hoping is past — that faith and action have now taken charge.

It’s a new day, a new beginning for your new life. With discipline you will be amazed at how much progress you’ll be able to make. What have you got to lose except the guilt and fear of the past?

Now, I offer you this challenge: See how many things you can start and continue in this — the first day of your new beginning.

To Your Success,

5 Great Ways To Overcome Procrastination At Home

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

If you procrastinate at home you may suffer some consequences from disgruntled family members who have to carry your share of the workload.

A worst-case scenario is that your procrastination and lack of motivation may carry over to other members of your family, resulting in absolutely nothing being done.

All the disorganization and clutter in your home will most likely result in chaos and disarray to the point you have no clean clothes to wear and can’t find your books or briefcase.

However, all is not lost because you can learn how to overcome procrastination at home by following a few simple suggestions…

1. Make a list of tasks that must be done daily, weekly, monthly and so on. Then think about how each task can be simplified.

For example, the first thing you normally do when you get home is change into comfortable clothing.

You can eliminate one task right here by hanging up your clothes when you take them off instead of waiting until bedtime, when you most likely will throw them over the back of a chair.

2. Once you have made your task list, prioritize each list.

It could go something like this:

(1) talk and listen to your children and/or spouse to learn about their day;

(2) get dinner started (you already know what cook because previously you made menus and shopped for food;

(3) make some time to talk to family members while dinner is cooking;

(4) immediately after dinner clear the table and load the dishwasher instead of waiting;

(5) do other necessary chores such as laundry while helping children with homework. This list is an example only; your list may be entirely different. The important thing is to get it done.

3. Prevention is the key to having less to do around the

house. Put mats down around all entrances to prevent dirt from being tracked into the house, thus making vacuuming easier.

Some other preventive measures you can take now to lighten your load and help you overcome procrastination at home are so simple you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of them sooner.

4. Ask family members to break all habits that result in messes, and minimize those that can’t be helped. Become aware of the messes around the house and analyze the reason for them.

You can coat some surfaces with a sealant to keep them looking shiny and new and make cleaning easier.

If you have surfaces that can’t be cleaned such as a wall with flat latex paint, you can repaint with a cleanable paint or cover it with a washable wallpaper. Seal off crevices and cracks that let dust and pests get into your home.

5. Other tips include avoiding high-low carpet patterns and embossed floor tile; it collects dirt and is hard to clean.

Indoor-outdoor carpet also shows every piece of lint or dirt that gets on it (and it really doesn’t add much fashion to your floor anyway).

Elaborately textured ceilings and walls collect dust and cobwebs and should be avoided.

Other elements to avoid include unfinished wood that shows stains, dark colors on floors, furniture and countertops, and large collections that have to be moved around to clean.

With a little forethought and ingenuity, you can teach yourself and family members to simplify your lives and learn how to overcome procrastination at home.

Making Excuses

Friday, October 28th, 2011

I edited and re-edited my article. I had to make sure it was just so. Then I procrastinated on writing the query letter to get my article published. The house needed cleaning, I ran out of stamps, the letter wasn’t quite right. Delivering the query letter to the mailbox took another week what with family, meetings and such. I had good excuses why I wasn’t actively trying to get published. But, the real reason was that I was afraid I wasn’t going to be good enough.

So many times our excuses are just a cover-up for being afraid. Unfortunately since the fear is being covered up we have no way against it. We just go merrily along making more excuses and wondering why our life is still the same.

We need to bring our fears out into the open. Next time you feel yourself start making an excuse, stop. Look behind that excuse and see if a fear is lurking nearby. Say it like it is. Be honest with yourself with the real reason you are making excuses. Look the fear in the face. Only then can you fight it.

-Examine your fear. Is it rational? Is it true that everyone will laugh at you if you try yoga? Most people will be too busy worrying

about embarrassing themselves at yoga class.

-If it is rational, what practical steps can you do to minimize your risk? If you start your own business you may fail and lose money. Is there any way to save up money or stay at your job a little while longer before launching a new business?

-Now go for it! Tell yourself you are scared, but you can do it anyway. Take itty bitty steps if you need to, but keep moving forward. Find someone to be accountable to. Tell them what you are going to do and then check in with them once you accomplish the task. Don’t let yourself make excuses.

TAKE ACTION

Start looking at where you are making excuses frequently. Do you always make excuses why you can’t exercise or why you will do this project later?

1. I frequently make excuses about:

2. What I am really afraid of is:

3. Is this fear rational?

4. If this is rational, what steps can I take to minimize risk?

5. The next three little actions to take will be:

Now take that first action and say goodbye to your excuses!

How to Give Yourself a Motivational Warm Up When You Wake Up

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Question:

What is the worst thing you can do when you start your day?

Answer:

Wake up feeling lethargic and expect yourself to perform at 100% from the moment you get up in the morning; and then compare how you are doing during the day against this unrealistic benchmark.

There is a better way!

As you wake up in the morning take charge of your thoughts in that early morning awareness before you fully awake.

Do this before you get up out of bed by repeating some affirmations. Affirmations work very well WHEN you say them with strong feelings in a state of deep relaxation.

If you have heard about affirmations before and never got the maximum benefit from them it is because you did not know how to take a very ordinary approach and supercharge it.

Supercharging affirmations depends on four factors:

  • Phrasing affirmations in the right way

  • Choosing ones that are right for you

  • Saying them while in a state of deep relaxation

  • Speaking them with strong feeling

At the end of this message I will tell you how to get fr*e tips from an expert that will explain the nuts and bolts of affirmations.

But for now…

When you use affirmations correctly their impact will last for at least a few hours – long enough to get you started on the day ahead.

Pay close attention now because I am going to reveal details of some of my personal and very private habits…

I use the following affirmations to help me get up in a positive state of mind:

  • Positive thoughts bring me

    the benefits I desire

  • Negative thoughts have no influence over me

  • Everyday and in everyway I am getting better and better

To start the day with confidence…

  • I am confident and charming with the people I meet

  • I radiate confidence and relaxation

  • I start great conversations easily and effortlessly

  • I approve of myself and feel great about myself

  • I have sky-high self-esteem

You can do the same.

Remember to say these affirmations with feeling and do so quietly inside your head while in that relaxed awakening state.

Unless I use this ritual each morning I tend to feel negative about the day ahead. The difference from feeling negative to feeling positive is huge for the sake of those few minutes in the morning.

You can also go one step further and imagine the day ahead working out well. See yourself doing your best and easily dealing with challenges. Imagine yourself feeling confident and behaving in that way no matter who you deal with.

Imagine you will have a great day in this way and you are directing your unconscious to make it happen in the language it understands best – feelings and images.

Forget about will power.

Will power is a waste of time because it´s like talking to the most powerful part of your mind in a language it does not understand.

How To Create A Dream

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

All of us have a vision of our own possibility. Yet few achieve the success that our heart’s desire.

For us to move closer to our dream of health and wealth and achievement, we first need to move beyond the angst of our memories of past failures. We must move beyond our hesitation and our fears. And we must put behind us the memory of what it was like to walk along the boulevard of broken dreams.

We also must realize that greatness is not easy.

In an inspired moment, we may make enormous progress, but, sooner or later, we come up against the boundary of our world-view, our choice of circumstances, and we do not know how to move beyond it.

The world we live in now is one that we created from what we knew before.

A dream, however, calls for us to expand, to move beyond experience, and even to move beyond our knowledge of how things work.

It is beyond the invisible boundary of the world that we have made that our dream awaits us, beckoning us to step into the unknown.

Dreams test us. They goad and prompt us, but they also test us. How much are we willing to give up for them? How long are we willing to act in the face of discouraging circumstances?

When something new is being created in our reality, we often feel lost and afraid. It takes enormous courage to

journey into uncharted terrain.

In addition, there is a lag time between our inner change and the manifestation of the dream, and during that lag time we must live in the midst of old effects. It takes an intense desire and hidden fire to believe in the evidence of things not seen. Too often the evidence of our current environment completely intimidates us…and we surrender to the belief that our current limitations are real and inevitable.

Yet the world that seems so solid is actually elastic.

When our consciousness of what is possible for us changes, then the world, too, shifts away from its familiar moorings and offers us a chance to be more of whom we believe ourselves to be.

If we can hold fast to our goals and take action relentlessly, we will discover a key to success that yields abundance in every area of our lives.

Consider what it will cost us, in the long run, if we turn away from our own promise.

Information Age: Knowledge is King

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

In our information age, having the right knowledge at the right time can make the difference between failure and success. Knowledge, gained through experience makes one an expert in any field.

We have pre conceptions about every issue, based on our knowledge of the subject matter. We believe some things are risky, because we do not know the internal workings of it, and cannot comfortably predict outcomes.

The best way to be equipped to start anything, be it business, travel, venture etc is to gain all the knowledge you can. In a knowledge economy, you cannot make headway or make money if you are not knowledgeable.

The easiest way to gather knowledge is through reading. Read widely about the subject matter of interest. You may have come across a lot of folks that became experts in their field without going through any formal education or formal route. They were bold enough to read up, and step out. A lot of things that seem like rocket science, if you delve deeper, you get to see that there is no big deal about it.

A lot of business ventures fail due to lack of preparation. Folks take a starry eyed walk into areas they have no previous experience or have not paid the price to do their homework well. There is nothing new under the sun. Someone has walked that road before.

What you are trying to do may be unique, but the principles are timeless. Someone has been there before you. Chances are, someone has written about it or told a story in a book, website or forum. Search for it, and get all the information you can. These can save you a lot of

energy, time and resources expended in the learning curve.

The more prepared you are before embarking on any venture, the greater your chances of succeeding. From reading and studying, especially other’s experiences, you get to know the obstacles to look out for, and how to overcome them. As you journey on, and these obstacles do show up, you will not be taken by surprise, and you will already have a way worked out to overcome it.

This gives you confidence to proceed further. There will be few surprises. Since you are already prepared, you will not give up easily. By seeing the obstacles upfront, you have the opportunity of deciding before hand whether to proceed on the quest or not, based on the odds ahead. You will be better equipped as you proceed, and prepared to handle setbacks that are sure to come up.

As you gain more knowledge on a subject matter, the more you become “expert” and better able to understand the inner workings. You will be better able to manage the risks involved, and better equipped to cut your losses and maximize your gains. You gain more emotional stability, and are less likely to panic under adverse scenarios, since you have a good view of the bigger picture and a firm grasp of historical antecedents.

Do you want to excel in anything you do? Study under the masters, and go for it.

Rules To Live Life By

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

How often have we heard ourselves complaining about how unlucky we are in life or how things are just not working out right for us. However, what we so easily forget is that at some time before in lives, luck has favoured us.But it is human nature whereby we remember only what didn’t work for us but easily forget the things that happened in our favour. There are several things in life that we must cherish and be thankful to God for. One important thing that we must do is make a list of all the good things that have happened to us or all the blessings we have got and refer to that list whenever we feel upset or uncared for. Actually this is the same logic, which we use when we read old love letters because they remind us of happy times and cherished memories. Here is a list of ten quotations and how we can interpret these to lead a happier life.

1) Cry a river; build a bridge; get over it.

Let go of past failures, sadness and people whom we remember but who no longer care for us. This sounds so easy but its easier said than done. We all have gone through our share of heartaches and sadness. But when we constantly remember the pain and suffering we had endured, we are allowing that sadness to gain an upper hand over us. What we must realize is that what has happened, has happened. Its over and done with. People change and times change. Moving on in life is very but it’s the first constructive step to a better you.

2) Everything happens in its own time.

There are things that we do and expect to be rewarded for which does not happen. In offices there might be a promotion that we might have wanted, a high percentage of marks in a test or a job offer that we were sure that was to be given to us etc that never worked out. At such times we lose perspective and blame our luck and become despondent. We need to realize that there is a time for everything that happens in our lives. And when the appropriate time comes, things will start working the way they were supposed to work.

3) You are the only person who can make yourself happy.

Think of your happiness too and be kind to yourself. In life all of us have goals and ambitions. But in the pursuit of those goals we lose sight of the bigger picture that we are doing all that to make ourselves happy. This is seen especially in the case of mothers who are doing so many things for their kids and family that they don’t remember as to when was the last time they did something for their own happiness. It happens to all of us. Be more gentle on yourself. Make yourself happy and that can be done in so many ways. Treat yourself to some ice cream, buy a book that you were dying to read, spend a day lolling in the bed and doing nothing. We deserve it and so do our bodies.

4) Laughter is the best tranquilizer with no side effects.

Laugh each and every day of your life. Humorous situations happen to us every single day. Whether you choose to enjoy the moment or not is your decision. There are so many excuses in our day-to-day life to have a good laugh. All we need to do is just look at the lighter side

of life and enjoy the moment. When you laugh don’t think whether people are watching you or how much you laugh. It’s their problem that they cannot find the humor in the situation that you have found.

5) Happiness is a journey not a destination.

As we make our journey through life we have so many things to savour and experience. There is no such thing as instant happiness or happiness that can be found somewhere. Live your life each day, as you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance towards the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point.

6) Do today what others wont so you can live tomorrow like others can’t.

So many times we are faced with duties and work that we are not happy doing or performing. In those times instead of hating or shirking from that work we can try and make use of thought that somehow whatever we doing will prove beneficial to us one day or the other. Maybe the results won’t be seen tomorrow but surely we will benefit because we did something that no one was willing to do. An example would be the people who started companies, which are million dollar establishments today. They dared to venture and put their money in something that their colleagues would not have been willing to do and today their work is paying off rich dividends.

7) It is never too late to be what you might have become.

There are several factors that cause us to land up doing the work we do. Many of us at some point of time or the other would have definitely wanted to make a career change and thought that its too late to do it. But the truth is its never too late. We can start doing whatever we want to do because its your life and your decisions. In the U.S, there are people who attend college in their late 60′s and 70′s because they always wanted to do it. Such people are the ones who believe in this adage.

8) Treasure the love you receive it will survive long after your gold and good health have vanished.

We always cherish our material possessions more. Life takes a lot from all of us. Today we might have good health, family love and a good home to go back to. What we forget is that there are some many calamities that can take away all our comforts but love is something that can never be taken away. We need to be more demonstrative of our love towards others and treat our loved ones with more kindness and affection.

9) The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

Any huge task that needs to be done seems very daunting at first. But if we analyze the task carefully and do it step by step we will find that things get resolved very quickly and easily. But we need to be bold enough to take the first small step. Once that is done we just need to proceed with small steps towards our goal.

10) Always have: something to do, something to love, something to hope for.

These three things are something that will keep the flame burning within all of us. Something to do will keep us busy, something to love will keep us motivated and something to hop for will take us faster towards our goal.
