Everything Going Against You
Wednesday, August 31st, 2011
“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” Henry Ford
When everything is going along smoothly, you feel like nothing can stop you.
The true test of success comes when you run up against challenges, or people who put roadblocks in your path. How do you handle them?
Don’t let setbacks get you down. Studying successful people will show you that they did not attain their success without first overcoming challenges.
When Beethoven was 26 years old, he started experiencing hearing problems,
which later became total deafness. Yet, Beethoven went on to compose some of his greatest works after his hearing loss. He had a strong passion for music, and even though everything seemed to be going against him, he showed tremendous determination to overcome his challenge and fulfil his desire to compose.

Wealth Building: Let The Wealth Building Secrets Of J. Paul Getty Inspire You To Great Achievement
Wednesday, August 31st, 2011
One of the shortcuts to creating wealth is to learn from those who have achieved great wealth.
The late John Paul Getty is known as one of the greatest wealthbuilders in American history.
He was kind enough to distill his wealth building rulesfor anyone who desires to amass wealth like him to follow.
Do you want to be fabulously rich? Then learn from the master wealth creator himself, and follow in his footsteps:
Rule No. 1:
To acquire wealth today, you must be in your own business.
You may think that the corporate executive with a $100,000salary is better off than small shop owner, but the executivewill be hard-pressed to double his income and taxes will eat upmost of any increase.
The simplest peanut vendor has unlimited opportunity to expand his business and his income, and even salesmen, who in most cases are able to write their ownpaychecks, can control his sale increases himself.
Rule No. 2.
You must have a working knowledge of the businesswhen you start and continue to increase your knowledge of it asyou go along.
If you don’t know what you’re doing when you start, yourmistakes will be costly and often unnecessary, and you won’t beable to keep up with the technological explosions in any field.Start smart and stay that way.
Rule No. 3.
You must save money in your personal life and inyour business venture as well.
Discipline is the key to saving money. You must develop thewill power to deny yourself immediate gratification or thetemptation to gamble on the quick buck. Resources will be needed for expansion and should be guarded carefully.
Rule No. 4.
You must take risks, both with your own money orwith borrowed money.
Risk-taking is essential to business growth.
Nelson Bunker Hunt is admired for his guts in trying tocorner the silver market, not scorned for losing money on thisdeal.
Some of the richest men have staked their entire fortunesand lost, several times over, before the risk-taking paid off.
Back those risks with good judgment, experience, commitment, And the right support.
Seek advice on risks from the wealthy who still
take risks, not friends who dare nothing more than a football bet.
Rule No. 5.
You must not only learn to live with tension, youmust seek it out.
Thrive on stress! If it means getting physically fit, having apsychiatric overall or losing 50 pounds before you can handleit, do it.
Once you can learn to thrive on stress, you will notonly enjoy it, you will seek it out willingly and enthusiastically and wonder how you could live any other way.
Men of means look at making money as a game which they love to play.
Consider it serious business and you will suffer far morestress than you need or want.
Keep your perspective or your stress level will rocket beyond your control.
Rule No. 6.
Build wealth as a by-product of your businesssuccess.
If wealth is your only object in business, you will probablyfail.
Wealth is only a benefit of the game. If you win, themoney will be there.
If you lose, and you will from time to time if you play long and hard enough, it must have been fun or it was not worth it.
Rule No. 7.
Patience.
This is the greatest business asset. Wait for the right time tomake your moves.
Let your business grow naturally, not by pressing your luck.
Rules No. 8.
Diversify at the top.
Once you’ve made it, you’ll understand that any business islimited in the challenges it offers.
You’ll want and need other games to play, so you’ll look for other ventures to hold your interest.
May these words of wisdom from Mr. Getty inspire youto build fabulous wealth and reach the stars.
Warmly,

Playing With Mindfulness: Sneaking In The Back Door
Monday, August 29th, 2011
I often meet people who say things like, “I’ve been working on mindfulness for over twenty years.”
My response is always this: “Oh, you poor thing! Have you tried *playing* with mindfulness? It’s very effective, and much more fun!”
They tend to look at me like I’m some kind of kook, and then ask the million-dollar question: “How can you play with mindfulness?” Glad you asked….
We tend to think of mindfulness as something that develops only after years of dedicated meditation. We must sit for hours, contemplate in silence for days, go on retreats for weeks, practice daily for years. Okay, that can work.
The unfortunate thing is that it IS work, and consequently, it’s about as appealing to most folks as lying on a bed of nails. Sure, they want to develop a clearer perspective on life. Yes, they want to become calm and contemplative. Of course they want to live more meaningfully and with greater joy. But does it have to be so hard?
Absolutely not. You see, while most people knock politely on that front door of meditation in order to get inside the House of Mindfulness, I like to sneak people in the back door to steal a few cookies. Why can’t we play with mindfulness, dance with it, treat it like our favorite goofy cousin who happens to be brilliant instead of our strict uncle who happens to have a Ph.D?
Why can’t we tiptoe toward mindfulness through eyes-wide-open exercises that are engaging, uplifting, informative, and–dare I say it–fun?
Mindfulness should be like a big game of mental
hide-and-seek: “Where am I now? Gotcha!”
As a student of Buddhism for nearly 30 years, I have the greatest respect for the Buddha and the philosophy that developed around his teachings. I have tremendous admiration for those who have dedicated themselves to a regular meditation practice.
But it’s disturbing to me that mindfulness is seen as “belonging” to Buddhism and that meditation is seen as the only vehicle that will take us there. This sounds a bit like, oh, attachment? Clinging, perhaps?
I just can’t find it in my heart to believe that the Buddha would be ticked off about the idea of developing mindfulness in whatever way works best.
Not everyone likes the idea of meditation, but here’s the cool part: those who start off with easy, enjoyable exercises often find themselves seeing the value in sitting still. In fact, many clients say they’d never have started with meditation, but they so enjoyed “playing” with mindfulness that they have begun a regular sitting practice!
Sneaky? Sure, but that’s part of playing. Fun–in whatever form that takes–is what keeps us going back for more. If you’re not grinning, you’re not winning in this big ol’ game of life. If “working” on mindfulness isn’t working for you, try playing instead.
Throw open the doors.Let your inner monk go out and play. It’s recess!

Making Decisions
Saturday, August 27th, 2011
You lost your job. Your partner left you. Your car was re-possessed. You find your life barren like the desert.
Your self-esteem plunged. You don’t think you are good enough for anything.
You will never find another job because you lack the education and the skills required. You are too old to try again. And who would want you now? The most “handsome, tall dark and charming man” has deserted you and you will never find another as charming as him.
These are common thoughts when you are met with adversity. At this point of your life you usually will not be able to see beyond what you are facing.
How can you think right when you are hungry? All you need is food to eat and a place to stay and call it a night. Your goal for the moment is to feed your stomach.
What can you do?
You can do something. All is not lost.
You can decide to tell yourself that “this too shall pass”. You can decide that you will start all over again.
You can take any job for the moment to give you a paycheck. And from there work yourself up again.
Read inspirational and motivational books instead of wallowing in self-pity. Better than using the time watching soap operas or reality shows. The books are available from the library and you can read them for free. If you think that there is no way to turn your life around-read “Man’s search for meaning” by Victor Frankl. It may help you look at your life at a different perspective. Or you can read the book by W Mitchell. You’ll be inspired.
Listen to motivational recording. If that is the only one you have…just keep listening to it.
Start writing your goals. Make a list of what you can do today and the next day and
the next.
Set out your intentions. It’s one step at a time and you have to keep on trying many times and different ways until you get what you want.
Have a talk with yourself. Write your feelings and thoughts in a journal. Sit down alone and contemplate.
Go for a walk. Practice deep breathing.
You and only you decide what you want to think. No one knows what’s going on inside your head. You can rewind and replay your failures or you can record and replay new positive ones.
People can say things about you. You decide what you want to listen to. You decide what you want to keep. You decide what you want to say to yourself.
Sometimes you think that there is no way out. How do you know you have tried everything? Did you write them down? How many ways were there…1, 2 or 20?
If you still have your complete physical self and a sound mind, there is no reason why you cannot start all over. Unless…you do not want to.
Or maybe what you are really crying out for is the familiarity. It’s too scary out there. You have been comfortable all this while. Now you have no choice but to change or rot. And you do not want to rot. At the same time you are so fearful. You have to decide. And the decision is yours.
This is the opportunity for you to challenge yourself. You have to help yourself to grow. You have to develop the attitude that if you work hard you can have a better life. No one is going to help you unless you help yourself first.

Darkness of Winter Encourages Insights
Saturday, August 27th, 2011
The darkness of Winter has descended.
For many the long stormy nights of Winter and the proverbial dark night of the soul are uncomfortable.
In addition to being dark, times like these can feel cold, lonely and boring. Whether the dark makes you feel sad, depressed, confused, uneasy or fearful, you may be quick to counteract your discomfort by searching for ways to create more light, companionship, and activity in your life.
Although bringing light to a dark time may alleviate your sense uneasiness, if too much light is brought on too quickly, a magical time of healing and connection is disrupted. In the long run, you’ll see more progress if you learn to work with the darkness rather than deny its existence.
The Magic of Darkness
Being in the dark heightens our senses.
* We hear more acutely. As a result we are more likely to catch messages from our intuition.
* We perceive subtle connections more easily because our minds are not cluttered with extraneous details.
* We tap our creativity more deeply. Poems, paintings, and songs are often crafted by people who are wrestling with some aspect of their life.
When you are in the midst of an inner Winter, these are precisely the skills you need to turn your situation around.
Find Comfort in the Darkness
If you find yourself disliking the dark of Winter, create ways to enhance your sense of comfort during these times. Gather:
* A warm, cozy blanket and some big fluffy pillows to create a safe nest for yourself.
* A huggable stuffed animal–a big teddy bear that feels like it’s hugging you back is a great choice.
* An array of candles to bring some sacred points of light to your setting.
* A favorite CD or tape with music that moves you.
* A notebook and pen for writing your thoughts as they come to you.
* An evening or day in
your calendar that’s devoted just to you.
The most productive thing you can do during Winter is nothing. That’s right. Give yourself the gift of time to be in solitude with no expectations or pressures to “accomplish” anything significant. Give yourself complete permission to unplug for several hours or several days. Unwind. Take long luxurious naps. Daydream to your heart’s content.
The Gift of Insight
You really never know how or when the insights will come, so follow your heart and do what feels best in the moment. Your answers may appear during your retreat or afterwards as you return to your daily life.
Don’t push. The gift of insight is not something you can demand or force. Insights come when the time is right.
Your only job right now is to cultivate an environment and state of mind that encourages new, creative thoughts and ideas to come through. Be open and receptive to unexpected answers. Be observant and make note of any new thoughts that occur to you.
Honor the Darkness
With time, you will come to know when your body and soul need some quiet time. You’ll begin to sense when something significant is brewing and gestating.
When you feel this feeling, act upon your premonition by creating time and space in your life for some time alone.
Gift yourself with an intentional retreat. Catch the sparks of insight as they appear. Don’t rush to conclusions, but allow the outcome to unfold in time as you live your life.
May the darkness that surrounds you be full of sparkling insights this Winter season.

What are You Waiting For
Thursday, August 25th, 2011
Do it now! Whatever it is you have been putting off, do it. This is your life, it is not a dress rehearsal. What is it you have always wanted to do but, for some unknown reason, never quite get to? I am referring to those usually minor desires, not major goals like “get married” or “start a business.”
For me it has been things like, swim with dolphins and ride in a glider plane. These were not major accomplishments but still, for some reason, I had been putting them off for years. Why? Why is it we have a tendency to treat our lives as though we will live forever?
In truth, our time here on this earth is but a brief moment in time. If you compare our, perhaps, 100 years here to the age of this planet we call home, you will see we are only here for a blink in time.
What are you putting off? What are some of the things you have always wanted to experience but are postponing because you think you have all the time in the world?
Read the obituaries in today’s newspaper and realize that everyone whose name is in there thought they had another day. It is not my intent to offend you but I do want to shock you into the realization that, this is it! This is your life.
Your life is precious
Do
not treat it lightly. Live now! Have you always wanted to sky dive? Visit the Great Pyramids? Swim with dolphins? See Niagara Falls? Whatever it is you have always wanted to do but have been putting off, decide now to do it. Make a plan. Determine what you will need to do to prepare. Find out the costs involved. Take action.
When I started writing this book I had still not swam with dolphins, even though it was something I really wanted to do. There were no logical reasons why I had not done it. I simply kept putting it off. It was always in my “someday I’ll” file.
Someday is now! I am pleased to say I have experienced swimming with these wonderful and noble creatures. It was great! Doing it was simple enough. All I needed to do was take action.
In your journal, answer the following:
What is you have always wanted to do?
What preparations will you need to make?
What is you target date to complete this?

Develop Guts to Achieve Glory
Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011
It is just amazing the amount of people who don’t have the courage to go after their dreams. They sit around living a life they are not happy with and still they do nothing about it.
And the funny thing is that if you should ask them the reason for this, they start finding excuses left, right and center. They vary from money to age to the economy and others you might be familiar with.
Many of us are waiting for Lady Luck to pay us a surprise visit. We blindly believe that that will be the end of our troubles. But this is hardly so.We have to work hard and wisely for the success we desire.
To make something of ourselves in this world calls for us to overcome obstacles and setbacks. But my biggest obstacle is my fears and you may find yourself in a similar position.
Not facing our fears and
moving on could be the difference between success and failure. So what’s to do ?
All it takes is the will and guts to go ahead and create something worthwhile in this world. We can all achieve success but we need to conquer our FEARS.
The man without fear is one who is not living. We all have our personal fears. It can be fear of failure, success or people’s opinion. But you have to face them to achieve success.
Ask any successful person and they will tell you this secret. A brave person is someone who acts in spite of his or her fears. So ask yourself, what fears do you need to conquer to reach your goals ?

Do It Now!
Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011
“At the end of our lives we never regret at the things we failed at but at the things we hope for but never attempted.” Richie Dayo Johnson
Few months ago, I went to Ashburnham Place, a Christian conference and prayer centre set in glorious East Sussex countryside for church groups, retreats, holidays and conferences with one of my mentors Joe De Souza, a top rated motivational speaker. He asked me, “if five frogs were attempting to jump out of a river, after 2 minutes how many of them would be left in the river?” I answered him by saying five frogs. The reason being that they are attempting to jump out of the river and have not jumped out of the river yet; they only attempted.
The five frogs will remain in the river if they only attempt to jump and never actually jump. Likewise, a goal will be a mere castle in the air if no attempt is taken to actualise it. If Thomas Edison, the inventor of electricity, only had the dream without attempting to bring it to life, there wouldn’t be electricity today. Many dreams have being destroyed in the realm of imagination without any attempt to bring it to life for fear – fear of failure and fear of rejection.
When we only hope or wish and never do anything to actualise it, we are simply killing the inner ability we have in bringing such goals to pass. It is when we attempt to do something about our dreams that we discover the inner capability we have in seeing it through. It is amazing how this happens, but the truth is that as time goes on, other ways of maintaining our dreams unfold, but we need to first take the bold step of attempting it.
Though man is limited, but the Giver of the vision is limitless. He has given diverse visions and different ways of actualising them. We only need to take a step by attempting to do something about it.
The good thing about ‘attempting’ is that if we fail, which is inevitable, we are invariably exposed to different ways in which we could maximise such goals. Failures open our eyes to new ways of achieving our goals, if persistence and perseverance are set in motion.
When Thomas Edison had the dream of the electric light bulb, he attempted it and failed 999 times; but his persistence to actualise his dream made him triumph and today we can read about him.
You will never be celebrated for a dream you only wished for, but for a dream you imagined, attempted and achieved.
I am a man of action. People who are successful always take action. Anyone who has ever been successful has done something.
Think about it! Even someone who is a successful ‘thinker’ (as opposed to a ‘doer’) is usually known because they did something that tells us about their success. Sir Richard Branson founded Virgin Atlantic; Tony Ryan founded Ryanair; The Wright Brothers built the world’s first aeroplane; Richie Dayo Johnson founded Richmond Johnson Academy, Stephen Covey wrote “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” and “The 8th Habit: From Effectives to Greatness” and Thomas Edison invented the electric light bulb. The list is endless. What they all have in common is ACTION. They did something with conviction! They took action and that is the reason we can talk and read about them today.
Just how essential is action? Let me describe it this way. Action is the great separator. It separates the achievers from the non-achievers. It separates the rich from the poor. It separates go-getters from mere dreamers. It separates the winners from the quitters. On the whole, it separates successful people from the unsuccessful people.
Nobody plans to fail, but many fail to plan. The greatest waste of time in our lives is having no idea of what it is we are supposed to accomplish. You must make a list of what you want to do every single day before starting the day. Do not start the day until you have mapped it on paper. This will make your day more organised and enable you get more work done. Prioritise your day and time. Make a sequentially numbered list; prioritise your work and take action on the most important item first. Develop a deep sense of priority and urgency.
Do something each day that will move you in the direction of your most important goal. Develop the discipline of doing something every day that will move you forward and towards your desired goal. You will be astonished at how much you accomplish when you adhere to this routine everyday.
The person who is determined to achieve maximum success learns that progress is made one step at a time, not all at once. A house is built one brick at a time, just as every big accomplishment is a combination of a series of little accomplishments.
Do it now!

Kindness and Motivation Tips Challenge Groups to Make a Difference
Sunday, August 21st, 2011
Do you belong to a group that helps make a difference in people’s lives? Does your group struggle to find ways to help others? Tired of the same old Bake Sale-Car Wash routine?
Below are five ideas your group can use to make a difference. These come from the e-book, “101 Ways to Change the World.
1. Organize a Group or Neighborhood Yard Sale and contribute the proceeds to a worthy cause. One neighborhood adopted an orphanage in Thailand and worked together to send thousands of dollars from their garage sale. In addition to the money they sent, neighbors became closer and new friendships were made.
2. Organize a Homeless Shelter (or other needy group) Scavenger Hunt. You’ll need a group of people – the more, the better.
3. Have a Toy Drive for a local Battered Women’s Shelter, Safe House or Homeless Shelter that has kids. The toys don’t have to be new.
around their neighborhoods
4. If you play a sport, have your teammates bring in their old equipment. Much of it will still be in good shape.
5. A group of 50 of classmates went to their Community Center.
They had a lot of fun and made a big difference at the same time! And the children learned the value of caring about others.
Remember, your ability to make a difference depends on your choice to do it. It’s just that simple. So visit http://www.101WaysSeries.com and download a copy of the e-book, “101 Ways to Change the World. Choose the ways you want to make a difference and then DO THEM!
As creator of Together We Can Change the World Day, Ginny Dye shares ways you can make a difference that can be found in the e-book entitled “101 Ways to Change the World Subscribe today at http://www.101waysseries.com

How to Overcome Procrastination in 4 Simple Steps
Sunday, August 21st, 2011
If procrastination is holding you back in life, these 4 simple steps are a sure way to help you overcome your endless struggle with procrastination. You’ll soon be able to achieve those daunting tasks and in some cases, even look forward to doing them!
Step 1: Identify the REAL cause of your procrastination
The first step is finding out what causes procrastination. People often use the word as if procrastination itself is the problem. For example, “You know, I really have a problem with procrastination.” But procrastination itself is NOT the problem-it is only the symptom.
Start by picking a task you know you should do, but have put off for a long time. Is this something you dread doing because it is not in line with who you are?
For example, I had a friend whose son always turned his homework in late. He constantly put it off until the very last minute-even after being penalized, still nothing changed. It took a caring teacher to really dig into the problem to find out what it was.
The boy, as it turned out, was afraid of getting a bad grade on his homework. Without even thinking about it, he would put it off until the pain of turning it in late became greater than his fear of getting a bad grade.
In his mind, he was actually protecting himself from a potentially painful situation. The apparent reason for his procrastination was: I’m too busy with my after-school projects. The REAL reason for his procrastination: I’m afraid I might fail. To find the source of your procrastination, ask yourself the following questions:
1) Am I putting it off because I’m just not good at it?
2) Am I putting it off because I’m afraid I might fail or because I’m afraid of what might happen?
Step 2: Create an action plan that’s in line with your strengths
After you discover the real reason for your procrastination, the next step is finding a way to get the job done that is in line with something you LIKE to do.
Let’s say you really like to be with people, but you have a term paper that you must get done. The truth is that you don’t want to write the paper because you have to do it by yourself. The problem is that your strength is being with people but
this paper forces you to work alone.
The solution? Try inviting a friend over to help you. (This friend must have your best interest in mind). They won’t write your paper for you, but you can bounce ideas off of them. This solution would make writing a paper much more appealing to you when you know you won’t have to “go it alone.” You can do this with any task you need to get done, but have put off in the past because it was not in line with one of your strengths.
Step 3: How fear of failure can be the cause of procrastination
One big reason that many people struggle with procrastination is because they’re afraid that they might fail. But what is REALLY driving this fear of failure? In most cases, it’s because of that little voice inside your head that tells you you’re just not good enough.
The voice goes like this: I know I need to look for a new job, but I’m so afraid of interviews. What if I say something stupid? I’ll just wait til next week when there are more jobs in the paper and I can get someone to write a better resume.
Do you see how that little voice is creating the thoughts that cause procrastination? You start with good intentions, but they quickly get shot down by that little voice inside your head. So how can you stop this from happening?
Step 4: How to stop making excuses and start getting things done!
The next step is overcoming that “little voice” and getting rid of it the moment it begins to invent excuses that cause you to procrastinate. Keep reading to find out about a FREE 7-day email course that shows you exactly how to do this.
Be sure to take notes on these 4 simple steps and practice them so you can put those unproductive days behind you. Since you now know the real cause of procrastination, you can go right to the source and eliminate that little voice inside your head.
Larry Bilotta, the leading authority on understanding people, has been helping people build their self esteem, reduce stress and improve their marriages for over 12 years.
